A festive dress for a girl: to buy, have it custom-made, or rent?
Graduation is only two months away.
It would seem there is plenty of time.
But then, someone in the parents' chat asks quite innocently:
“Ladies, have you bought your dresses yet?”
And that’s it. 😄
Half an hour later, you have twenty tabs open on your phone. Fluffy or not? White, pink, or blue? Corset? Long? And does the child even like what mom picked out?
And somewhere between all these questions, another one arises:
Is it better to buy a festive dress for a girl, have it custom-made, or rent it?
In reality, there is no single right answer for everyone.
At SONECHKO, we handle sales, custom tailoring, and ball gown rentals, so we will tell you when each of the three options makes sense.

Option 1. Buy a ready-made ball gown
This is the simplest scenario: you arrive, try it on, the child looks in the mirror and says those cherished words:
“This one!”
A ready-made dress is especially convenient if there is not much time left before the event. There is no need to wait for tailoring, and during the fitting, you can immediately see the fit, length, color, and the entire look.
Buying also makes sense if you plan to wear the dress more than once. For example, first for a photoshoot, then for graduation, a birthday, or another festive occasion.
And, of course, there is one more argument that cannot be measured in money: the dress remains yours.
For some, it’s just an item. But for others, ten years from now, it will be a pleasure to take that same kindergarten graduation dress out of the closet.
When should you buy a ready-made dress?
If:
there is little time left before the celebration;
the child has a standard fit and the ready-made model fits well;
you want to use the dress multiple times;
it is important that you keep it after the celebration;
you found the exact color and model you were looking for.
And if you like everything, except for one small “but” — for example, you want this model but in a different color or length — then the second option comes into play.

Option 2. Have a ball gown custom-made for the child
This is where it gets interesting.
Sometimes a child likes a specific model, but mom wants it in ivory.
Or vice versa: the style is perfect, but the young owner of the dress announces that pink is absolutely out of the question, she needs blue.
And you probably shouldn't argue with the person who has to go to graduation. 😉
At SONECHKO, you can order custom tailoring of a ball corset dress for a girl.
You can choose the desired color, length, and have the model tailored to the child's figure.
And how many fittings are needed?
Here is some good news for parents.
You don't need to come in for three fittings.
For tailoring, we only need two main measurements:
chest circumference;
length of the dress from the armpit to the hem.
The measurements can even be taken by yourself and sent to us remotely.
After that, the dress is sewn according to the received parameters. There are no additional intermediate fittings. After production, only minor adjustments are possible if they are needed.
How long does custom tailoring take?
In a normal period, expect about two weeks.
But there is an important “but.”
April–May is graduation season. And at about the same time, many parents remember that graduation is coming up very soon.
In season, the tailoring time can increase up to a month.
Therefore, if you want a specific model, a specific color, and custom measurements, it is better not to leave the order for the last two weeks before graduation.
Who would I recommend custom tailoring to?
If:
ready-made dresses don't fit well;
a specific length is required;
you like the model but want a different color;
you are looking for a special ball gown for graduation;
you want the child to keep the dress after the celebration;
there is time to wait for production.
Option 3. Rent a ball gownAnd now for a different situation.
You need a very spectacular ball gown for one day.
Kindergarten graduation, 4th-grade completion, a photoshoot, or a birthday.
You want a fluffy skirt, a corset, a train, sparkle, and that exact moment when the child comes out of the fitting room and mom forgets for a few seconds how much else needs to be organized for graduation. 😊
But after the celebration, you don't plan to keep a large ball gown at home.
Then renting a festive dress often turns out to be the most rational solution.
You are not paying to own the dress for years, but for the opportunity to get the look you need for an important event.

When is renting more profitable than buying?I would consider renting primarily if:
the dress is needed for one event;
you want an especially luxurious or expensive model;
there is no desire to store a bulky ball gown afterwards;
the child is growing quickly;
you do not plan to use this look again.
There is another advantage.
Next time, you can choose a completely different dress.
Today — a delicate ivory princess.
For the next photoshoot — a rich color and a completely different look.
And you don't have to explain to the child: “We bought you a dress last year, wear it again.” 😄
What to choose for kindergarten graduation?For kindergarten graduation, renting often makes the most sense.
Children at this age grow so fast that a long ball gown bought today might turn into a completely different model in a year — simply because of legs that suddenly grew. 😄
If you need a luxurious look for just one graduation, you should look into renting.
If you want to keep the first graduation dress as a keepsake, are planning a photoshoot, or other celebrations — you can buy a ready-made one.
And if you already have a clear vision: “We want this exact model, but in this color and perfectly fitted to the figure” — then the best solution might be custom tailoring.
And what is better for 4th-grade graduation?
The situation here is a bit different.
At this age, girls are much more actively involved in choosing their look.
Sometimes very actively. 😉
Therefore, we advise not to choose between “buy or rent” first, but to choose the dress itself together with the child.
If you found a ready-made model that fits perfectly and she likes it — you can buy it.
If the girl wants a specific color or needs a custom fit — it is worth considering tailoring.
If the main goal is one incredible look for graduation and there is no need to keep the dress afterwards — renting solves this question most simply.
And if the dress is not for graduation?
Ball gowns are chosen not only for kindergarten and 4th grade.
They are perfect for:
festive photoshoots;
birthdays;
weddings, when the girl is a little guest or participating in the ceremony;
stage performances and formal events.
And here the same simple rule applies.
One look for one day — look at renting first.
Want to keep the dress, use it again, or create a model specifically for your child — look at sales and custom tailoring.

It would be very convenient for us to end this article with the words:
“Of course, buy the dress!”
Or:
“Why buy? Renting is better!”
But that would be untrue.
If the child wears a ball gown once, and then it takes up half the closet for several years — renting really might be a smarter decision.
If you want to keep the dress, use it again, or she simply liked it so much that no one is going to return it — buy a ready-made one.
And if you need a specific model, color, length, and fit specifically for your child — order custom tailoring.
The main thing is that on the day of the celebration, the girl looks in the mirror and likes what she sees.
And the way to get that dress is a secondary matter. 💛
